Spring is here and booties are all around! (the kind for your feet). I’m officially addicted to Rag & Bone’s bootie collection. These camel high cut booties (called the Classic Newbury) feature a panel of perforated leather adding an edgy feel. I’ve yet to pair them with shorts – but I plan to try that look out this summer. I love the look of a bootie with a tailored jean or even a boyfriend jean for a more relaxed look. I cuffed my denim slightly in order to show off the full height of the boot. Paired here with a sheer silk blouse and a classic schoolboy navy blazer for a fresh spring look.

A must-have staple for any wardrobe. The classic white blouse can be dressed up or down (or somewhere in-between). This Equipment Signature piece is very soft on the skin and has less structure than a typical white cotton dress shirt. The loose fabric lets it ‘hang out’ a instead of looking too starched and upright. Paired here with some torn up jeans and spring booties for a fresh and summery look. Accessorized with my usual gold-tone pieces. How do you wear your classic white shirt?

Celebrating mother’s day is a special time for me. My husband always spoils me for being a step-mama and we always celebrate again doing something as a family when we are with the boys. Mother’s day always falls right on or between my Dad and Sister’s birthdays so it’s usually an all encompassing celebration. Going for Mother’s Day brunch seems to be a popular tradition and this year was no different. We went a bit formal this year (my husband said, “Am I really wearing the suit I got married in to eat eggs today?”) and I wore my new favourite dress from Marc by Marc Jacobs. It is so comfortable and feminine and I love the low back with the gathered material. I hope that all you mom’s out there (however you define motherhood) were celebrated and loved as you should be.

The start of coloured denim season has begun! Emerald green is apparently the trendiest colour for 2013 (who decides this? no idea). It is definitely a classy hue and can help add to a memorable style. It pairs beautifully with pretty much any neutral tone or with other jewel tones like blues and reds. I’ve paired it here with a quiet animal print tank and a cropped denim jacket. Perfect for a night out for dinner and a show. I’ve seen some great accessories in this emerald colour too – chunky bracelets and statement necklaces. Have you sported any emerald pieces yet this spring?

It’s that time of year when catalogues and stores are full of summery, flowy dresses. I found this one at an outlet in Phoenix. I saw it in the window and just loved the colours and the cut. Sunshine just makes me want to wear colour and pattern. I threw a belt on with this one as it has an elastic mid-body and I felt it needed a bit of something to define the waistline. When your waist is high like mine, it helps to add an accent or else your profile ends up looking like 2 legs and a head. Look for dresses that are longer in the back and shorter in the front – it helps to add length to the legs.

A timeless staple – the Little Black Dress. There are endless options when it comes to a short, black dress, and this one is as simple as they come. It’s basically a cotton t-shirt that is so easy to pack (especially for a last minute trip away for a couple of days). What I love about it is the very very low back. It makes undergarments a bit of an issue, but I found a great one piece spanx-like number to wear underneath. Not the best option if you have boobs that are on the bigger side – but (un)fortunately, that is not an issue for me. I had to walk a lot when wearing this, so I opted for some flat sandals instead of killer heels.

Not only is Peach & Blueberry my favourite pie, it’s also my new favourite colour combo for spring. Ok, so this outfit is pretty basic – but I was just going to a baseball game in the hot, hot, sun. These have to be my all-time favourite shorts, partially because they have an elastic waist (I’m not afraid to admit that) and partially because they have a retro running short cut. Find some colour for that spring wardrobe – and if you don’t know how to mix and match – just look to your favourite foods for inspiration 🙂
